Hokies Keep Things Interesting
Minnesota has no business being a 9-point favorite on college football sportsbooks against Virginia Tech here. Especially when the Hokies have the majority of their skill players suiting up to play on both sides of the ball. Granted, Minnesota will have the bulk of their guys playing as well, but these two teams are too similar on paper to have this large of a spread.
The Hokies are the slightly better offense between the two averaging just over 29 ppg on the year while Minnesota averages 26.3 ppg. Defensively, it’s flipped with Minnesota having the edge letting up just 17.5 ppg to opponents while Virginia Tech is allowing 22.8 ppg.
Against the spread, Minnesota has been extremely hot this season with a 9-2-1 record, however, in their 10 games against power conference opponents, they are 2-8 against a 9-point spread and 5-5 straight up. This also includes a loss to another ACC opponent in North Carolina.
Virginia Tech, while 6-6 against the spread, have kept things generally close all season. In their six losses, five of them have come within nine points and that includes a 3-point loss to another Big 10 opponent in Rutgers.
