Back Pitt Regardless Of Holstein Uncertainty
There is a significant talent gap between Pitt and Toledo in this one and bettors should be taking advantage of the less than a touchdown margin on college football sportsbooks before a potential shift.
Aside from the uncertainty of Holstein due to injury and opt-out of leading receiver Konata Mumpfield, nearly all of Pitt’s key starters will be suiting up in this one.
As for Toledo, key starters are still up in the air on if they’ll be playing or not including two of their top three pass catchers in Jerjuan Newton and Anthony Torres as well as leading tackler and safety Maxen Hook and defensive tackle, Darius Alexander.
Opt-outs and injuries aside, the numbers do speak for themselves in this one in favor of Pitt covering that 6.5-point spread.
Pitt is averaging 31.8 ppg this season while letting up 26.8 ppg to opponents for a +5 margin on average. They’ve also gone 7-5 against the spread this season with a +2-point margin in that area as well.
On the other side, Toledo hasn’t been very impressive against the spread this season at all. They hold a 5-7 record in that department and are failing to cover by a -1.9-point margin.
Based on the players opting out and Toledo’s rocky season against the spread, we’re rolling with Pitt on the spread in this one.
Eli Holstein Injury Update
There is optimism that Eli Holstein does suit up one last time this season according to head coach, Pat Narduzzi. Narduzzi stated that the team as a whole is “a heck of a lot healthier” than they were after their loss to Louisville which is when Holstein went down with a leg injury.
The injury to Holstein was not as significant as some might’ve thought as his leg was rolled up on through a busted play. Narduzzi insisted that Holstein is getting healthier by the day.
