BYU Vs. Arizona State Player Props: Back Retzlaff, Fade Leavitt

  • Jake Retzlaff has a 204.5 passing yard total.
  • Retzlaff has +131 odds to throw for over 1.5 touchdowns.
  • Sam Leavitt’s passing yard total is 201.5 yards.

TEMPE, Ariz. – A top-25 matchup between #14 BYU and #21 Arizona State is set in Week 13 and there is a massive QB battle between Jake Retzlaff and Sam Leavitt, two of the best in the Big 12.

With that, there are plenty of opportunities to bet on them at college football prop sites for their passing yard totals and even touchdown odds. At first glance, stats and trends suggest backing Retzlaff and fading Leavitt.

Trust Jake Retzlaff To Get Back On Track

Jake Retzlaff Total Passing Yards

  • Over 204.5 -114
  • Under 204.5 -114

Jake Retzlaff Total Passing TDs

  • Over 1.5 +131
  • Under 1.5 -173

Retzlaff is coming off of a tough loss last week which was BYU’s first loss of the year and finished with 192 yards and one touchdown. He’ll look to get back on track against a middling Arizona State defense and get BYU in a more concrete playoff position.

Looking back to what Retzlaff has done on the year, he’s gone over 204.5 yards in seven of ten games thus far and has also thrown for 2+ TDs in seven games as well. In this matchup, he gets a decent bounce back spot against an ASU defense that allows 216.6 passing yards per game. The Sun Devils have also seen four of the last five opposing QBs throw for more than 204.5 yards as well.

With the Cougars season very much on the line here, expect Retzlaff to let it fly and try and get out to an early lead and secure their playoff spot.

Fade Sam Leavitt Vs. Tough Defense

Sam Leavitt Total Passing Yards

  • Over 201.5 -113
  • Under 201.5 -115

This is just a tough spot for Sam Leavitt and Arizona State as BYU’s defense is one of the best in the country against the pass. BYU allows just 176.1 passing yards per game and have been steaming as of late holding their last four opposing QBs each to under 170 passing yards.

Leavitt, while a decent facilitator, isn't the most explosive QB there is. For example, he’s thrown for less than 200 yards in three of ASU’s last five games.

The Sun Devils also heavily rely on their run game with one of the top running backs in the country in Cam Skattebo who has carried the ball 20+ times in four of their last five games.

With so much on the line here and potentially a trip to the Big 12 Championship, we could see Arizona State come with a more conservative approach and stick to what they know works on the ground. This would certainly force Leavitt to stay under his passing yard total on college football sportsbooks.
